700R4 4L60E No Reverse.
Start your car put the transmission in Reverse and nothing happens. It was fine earlier. What happened? If you were to drive the vehicle forward, you may also notice that you no longer have second or fourth. This can be confirmed because your shift from first to third will be late totally skipping second and there will be no shift to fourth. The most likely culprit, a broken or stipped out sunshell This is a very common problem with this transmission and the repair unfortunately is to remove the transmission and disassemble it. Depending on mileage you will probably want to rebuild the transmission at this point so you are also going to need a 700R4 Rebuild Kit  or 4L60E Rebuild Kit The sunshell I referenced is called "The Beast". It is the heavy duty version and will last for years without any problems

The right performance torque converter? How do you know

There are many Performance torque converters on the market today. So how do you know the correct one for your application? Horsepower, cam specs, weight of the vehicle, engine size are all determining factors. A good torque converter rebuilder will use these specifications to build a torque converter for your application. When deciding on the stall range, you will want to know the power range of your cam. A good rule of thumb is approximately 500 RPM above the base line. So, if you have a camshaft with a power range of 2200 RPM to 5800RPM, you will want to buy a torque converter with a 2600 to 2800 stall This is assuming that you have a 350 or 400 transmission.  700R4 2600-up stall? There are alot of factors to consider. I will be happy to give more in future blogs. In the meantime you should have faith in your torque converter rebuilder and remember that one size does not fit all.

CD4E Harsh Shifts or no movement

Your driving along at normal speeds when your transmission starts shifting really hard. After a short time it stops moving or slips badly on takeoff. What happened? When the computer senses a transmission problem, it goes into what is called high capacity mode in an effort to protect the transmission. What it actually does is go to full line pressure. The result is normally a broken Forward/Direct Drum or other parts. The fix is a new drum and a rebuild kit . How do you prevent this from happening again? The easiest and most efficient way is to install a Transgo Shift Kit . This will help control runaway line pressure and clean up your shifts nicely.

4T65E Occasional harsh upshifts

Thought this question and answer would be helpful.
Hello,
I have a 2000 Olds Silhouette. I am sure it is a 4t65e transaxle with a 258mm converter. I would like to purchase a shift kit to address occasional hard up-shifts when tranny is hot. I was leaning towards a Transgo sk4t65e shift kit, but I cannot confirm it will work with the larger torque converter, since everything I can find seems to refer to a 245mm torque converter. I began to doubt whether the Transgo kit would work after looking at the Intense brand shift kit instruction, which address the two torque converter sizes. Does Transgo have a setup for both torque converters and if so, I would like to review the installation instructions before I purchase the Transgo sk4t65e to confirm it will meet my needs.

Answer:
The Transgo 4T65E shift kit will work for your car. The most important part of this kit is installed through the bottom pan and addresses the accumulators. The kit addresses the transmission and not the torque converter. The two problems that cause soft or harsh shifts are the accumulators and the EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) Solenoid. The easiest to correct is the accumulator problem since they are located in the bottom pan. I would suggest trying this first because this repair is permanent and will not need to be removed even if you need to go further.

4L60E has 1870 code

Your driving along and suddenly the check engine light is shining brightly. The transmission still shifts but the shifts are harsh. Upon a check of the codes, you find an 1870 TCC slip, converter overheat. This does not mean a transmission rebuild. There are many reasons for an 1870 code the most common being worn valves in the valvebody. In order to achieve PWM (pulse width Modulation) the valve in the valvebody is stroked many times. Actually thousands of times a minute. This causes severe wear in the valvebody and loss of pressure. If this has not been occuring too long, the repair can be as simple as a Transgo shift kit to repair and get pressures back to normal. While you are in there the next step should be to replace the solenoids since they can also cause low pressure problems as they work just as hard as the valves. These repairs can be done with the transmission still in the vehicle and the repair is alot cheaper then a full rebuild!!

4T65E Transmission slipping and or soft shifts

If your 4T65E transmission slips when shifting or is exibiting soft or lo-o-o-ong shifts, It may not be too late. The first step is to carefully examine the fluid. You are looking to see if it still looks relatively clean and does not have a burnt smell. The next step is to drop the lower pan and make sure there is no excessive debris on the magnet or in the pan. If everything looks good, you may be in luck. There are two options here. GM had a problem with the EPC (Electroinic Pressure Control) solenoid. It had a tendency to gunk up and cause low pressure that in turn caused soft or sloppy shifts. The other problem was in the accumulator area. The springs to control accumulator travel where weak and also caused sloppy shifting. You can choose one or both repairs to try and save your ailing transmission. The first involves removing the side cover and replacing the solenoids with approved and updated ones. The second involves the installation of a Transgo Shift Kit You will only replace the accumulator springs and not  internal parts since you are not rebuilding at this time. Hopefully this repair while a little time consuming will solve your problem saving you thousands on a rebuild.

4L60E Transmission Rebuild kits

Performing a complete rebuild of your 4L60E or just freshining it up, you need the right kit for the job. So you take it apart and everything looks good. Friction material, Steel plates, band, all hard parts but you want to replace all the gaskets and seals to freshen it up. 1993 to 1997 overhaul kit with frictions or 1998 to Present overhaul kit with frictions is a nice kit to freshen up your transmission. Need to do a complete rebuild? 1993 to 1997 Super rebuild kit or 1998 to Present Master overhaul rebuild kit is a complete kit that gives you everything you are going to need for your rebuild. The overhaul kit is made by Precision International an OE supplier of overhaul kits. This is the most complete overhaul kit you can buy. It contains all the gaskets, seals and sealing rings for your rebuild. The Friction module is made by either Borg Warner or Raybestos, both OE manufacturers of friction material. All in all you will be replacing your old wornout parts with quality parts that will last and last. Top this off with a Transgo shift kit to compensate for worn valves and valvebody and your transmission will be like factory new!!!
